2006 Marzocchi forks and rear shocks continued

Adding to my earlier sneak peeks of the 2006 Marzocchi line, BikeMagic has the most thorough introduction to date on the 2006 Marzocchi forks and rear shock.

The most noteworthy change that Marzocchi is implementing for its 2006 forks looks to be on the bigger end of the spectrum. The 888 — a great fork maligned for being too tall — will be shipped with flat crowns, which lowers the ride height by 25mm, and the 66 receives its own lowers (it shared the same lowers as the 888 for 2005), which decreases ride height by a whopping 40mm. Additionally, the 66RC2X will be available in 150mm and 170mm options.

Marz continues to insist on equipping its ‘all mountain’ forks only with standard quick release axles — a puzzling choice considering the competition (Fox, Rock Shox, Manitou) all offer 20mm versions of their all mountain forks.

Also Marzocchi looks set to introduce the Roco coil over rear shock. Marzocchi designed the Roco so that it has the same overall dimensions as the rear shocks produced by Fox, a savvy move if I do say so myself. I talked with an industry insider at Whistler yesterday who was running the Roco on his bike for the day and he was duly impressed. He said the same thing of the 888 RC2 (with white lowers — they look hot!).
