Looking back at the 24 Hours of Summer Solstice

At the start of the 24 Hours of Summer Solstice

So, the fun is now over. The camping gear is back on its shelf in the garage, the coolers have been emptied, the extra bike parts have been put away. Yes, another 24 Hours of Summer Solstice race is now behind me. Read the rest of this entry »

10 Questions with Gene Hamilton

Gene Hamilton is one of a handful of coaches that specializes in mountain bike skills coaching. He’s got that rare talent of being fast (Silver and Bronze in World Downhill Championships) and knowing why and how to teach it.

I had the great pleasure of taking a one-on-one private lesson from him last year. The session opened my eyes to a different way of approaching mountain biking and, as a direct result of my time with Gene, I’ve improved my XC skills significantly over the last few months. Tweaking the setup of your bike

Have you ever had that “something-is-not-quite-right” feeling on one of your bikes? Perhaps you have two bikes that are similar, but one of them just “feels” better. If so, you might just be a candidate for tweaking the setup of your ride.

Tweaking is the word usually applied to the process of making small, incremental changes to the existing set up on your bike. A “set up” is the term I use when describing the specific parts on your bike and their relationship to each other. For example, it includes not only the type of saddle that you use but also where it is positioned in relationship to your handlebar; another example could include the type of tires you use and the level of pressure.

Update on the PricePoint / Sette giveaway

Just a couple of quick words on the Sette cockpit giveaway that I mentioned at the beginning of June. Thanks for everybody who added their names to the hat — this type of promo was something I’d like to do more often. Thanks also goes out to PricePoint for providing the gear for this giveaway.

Entries are now closed. Since 22 different people added their names to the hat, their odds of winning were about 1 in 4.8. Don’t try to add your name because …

We have a winner. I used a complicated mathematical formula to extract a completely random number and then applied that result to … Never mind. All that’s really important is that I came up with a winner and the process was completely legit. I’ll fill you in on all of the juicy details after everything has been confirmed.

Tying up those loose ends

I’ve spent the past couple of weeks away from the computer tying up loose ends, getting in a bit of time on the bike, and hanging out with the family. I even built up my hardtail and got around to putting together a decent work bench in my garage. You know, normal stuff.

Over the next couple of days, I’ll be catching up with all of my e-things but I’ll be sure to drop a few words about all of the stupidity surrounding this year’s Tour de France, post up a bunch of links to new gear, and carry on with all of the other things we’ve got going on with The Bikn Hub.
