[...] Shimano let ’slip’ news of the 2007 XTR lineup at this year’s Sea Otter Classic. The group released at Sea Otter was missing brakes, which were slated to be unveiled a few weeks after the rest of the items. Pictures and specs have made their way onto the ‘net and the 2007 XTR brakes look like a nice addition to the rest of the group. [...]

[...] As I mentioned on the weekend, Shimano and SRAM both used the Sea Otter Classic to introduce the masses to their 2007 product lineups. The fact that nearly everyone focused on Shimano’s new XTR lineup and SRAM’s upcoming road group took some of the momentum away from SRAM’s 2007 mountain bike parts.
[...] This week, the 2006 Sea Otter Classic unofficially kickstarted the industry hype machine for the season and we saw Shimano jump on board with the release of information on changes to the XTR lineup for 2007. Expect the news to keep on flowing until Interbike closes its doors in the fall. [...]

2007 Shimano XTR - some thoughts on the new group

Now that Shimano has finally posted the details of the new 2007 XTR group and I've had a chance to digest some of the analysis, I thought I would post up a few thoughts (for what they're worth). But

It is funny that it is now Shimano imitating SRAM, not the other way around. Does the Rear Derail. look sort of like the Sram X Gen concept? I think the new XTR group looks cheap and sort of tacky. What happened to the wonderful smooth lines and sweet finishes. Heck I even really like the leaked XT shifter pods better. I undersand that looks are not everything. I still do not want to look like a Power Ranger.

I am now really excited about the new SRAM lineup. Look for a lighter and better shifting X.9. that will be closer to X.O. That will mean premium drivetrains for LX/XT price range.

They're still not quite as cool as Sram X.O but if the price is anything like current XTR (cheap) then I'll probably be converted back again.lol

That said, I'm still dubious about the new XTR cranks. I know they've apparently sorted the durability of their chainrings for 2007, but what about the finish on the arms themselves?
