[...] On Monday, I posted up a review of the Fox 36 TALAS RC2 that’s been mounted on my all mountain bike for the past couple of months. For Tuesday, Guitar Ted recounted the running of the 2005 Trans Iowa endurance event; you’ll have to wait until next week for the recap of this year’s event, but do a little digging and you can find lots of good stuff to tide you over. Ashwin wrote a good article on block ‘training’ — a useful training technique for the Everyman. Dan’s opinion piece on brick-and-mortar retail outlets versus online purchasing went live yesterday, and it has created a good amount of discussion on both sides of the fence.
Yeah, that's part of the reason I'm going with a road bike. I can get in a few early morning rides in each week...

More on the new bike later...

Endurance can also be addressed too by adding one long ride in there somewhere.

It's more of a general framework than a training plan. Everyone's experiences will vary but working hard on consecutive days seems to provide a high bang for the amount of time factor.

Good stuff Ashwin. I've been 'training' this way for a couple of years and it's a great way to get reasonably quick on a relatively limited schedule.

I agree that it's not the best way to build longer-term endurance -- I fade after about 2 or 2.5 hours -- but I'm still less tired after my limit than I was previously. The good thing for me is that I don't ride with too many hard core xc dudes, so I don't have to worry about red lining too much.

And I do try to schedule my riding so I take weekends off. Definitely makes things less difficult around the house.
