Putting in some distance, trying out a new bike
I know, I know, I was going to build up the hardtail. I will still do that, but I’ve been sidetracked by a new ride.
A couple of weeks back, I picked up the Haro Sonix S and I’ve been grinding out some miles as I get the bike dialled in and get used to running a shorter travel fork up front. The Sonix rolls nicely on gravel and it climbs well on steeps but I think I need to spend some more time with the Reba. I’ll do a more complete writeup after I’ve spent more time on the trails.

Still plugging away on the bike. It really is a different feeling ride from my Trance and I’m still up in the air over it. It’s fun to ride and is my weapon of choice for true xc stuff, but I’m not sold on it as a descender. I need to spend a few more days on technical trails to come up with a verdict on that point.
I’m not sold on the bars (too narrow), the grips (minor dislike), or the hand controls (they work well but I don’t like the layout of the LX shifter and brakes). And all of them will likely be changed before the end of the season (X0 derailleur, X9 shifters, Magura Martas, ODI Ruffian lock-ons., etc.).
I’m going to start hacking it apart to add lighter parts in the coming weeks, so we’ll see how it goes.
